Responsibilities:

• Maintains the dignity / confidentiality of the patient, serves as a patient advocate

• Verifies the identification of the patient using two identifiers

• Verifies physician order before performing testing; reviews pertinent clinical data

• Explains procedure to patient in a clear and concise manner without causing unnecessary anxiety

• Select, assemble, check for proper function and operation of equipment for use in measurement of brain/heart activity

• Is able to troubleshoot equipment

• Ensures all infection control policies and procedures are adhered to at all times

• Ascertain the patient's ability to cooperate with activation procedures

• Cleans and disinfects electrodes and equipment after each patient's use

• Maintains equipment and replenishes supplies as necessary.

• For EKGS makes sure that all leads are in proper placements

• Assures that the tracings  have no artifacts in them and the critical readings are read immediately by the Attending, House, or ED Physician

• Logs the EKG in the spreadsheet and distributes after they are read and scans EKGs into EMR

• Performs venous and capillary blood collections for laboratory testing

• Evaluates specimens to determine suitability for testing

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent / College degree preferred

• One year hospital or medical office experience preferred

• BLS - AHA Approved required
