Course Description and Details

Have you let your Certified Home Health Aide license to lapse? A reinstatement is available to any Certified Home Health Aide who holds an expired New Jersey Certified Home Health Aide license that is less than five years old. The reinstatement process includes a skill evaluation performed by an accredited Registered Nurse. The reinstatement process varies.

The procedure is determined by the length of time your license has been expired. If your license has been inactive for more than five years, you must retake the Certified Home Health Aide course. If your license has been lapsed for less than five years, a skills examination with a registered nurse will be performed. The skill evaluations usually last one hour. Furthermore, reinstatement dates are subject to change.

To reinstating your certified home health aide license, you must meet the following:

  • Successfully complete a homemaker-home health aide clinical training that is approved by the Board of Nursing in NJ

  • Complete a competency evaluation by an NJ licensed home health care agency

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess a valid and current NJ Board of Nursing certification as a Homemaker-Home Health Aide

  • Employed by a home health care service

  • Must be supervised by a professional registered nurse

  • Keep in mind NJ HHA certifications expire every two years and therefore must be renewed. Once certified as an HHA, you will be listed in the online directory of Certified Homemaker-Home Health Aides. This directory is made available to the general public to perform a license check.
